State Supplemental Social Security

While Social Security keeps the vast majority of senior citizens out of poverty, making it by far the most effective anti-poverty program the United States has ever enacted, by itself it has proved insufficient to provide for a dignified and decent retirement for many. In particular, as we live longer and accrue larger health costs at the very ends of our lives, Social Security is not keeping pace. The authors of this proposal propose Supplemental State Social Security programs to complement existing federal benefits and provide a much-needed boost to retirement security, especially for those who are most vulnerable.
