WASHINGTON, DC — The National Academy of Social Insurance announced today that Jill C. Braunstein has been named as Director of Communications.

As the Academy’s first Communications Director, Braunstein will be responsible for all its public relations activities. “We are delighted to have a professional who will focus full-time on all our communications strategies,” said Virginia Reno, the Academy’s Director of Research. “As our work on Medicare, Social Security, workers’ compensation and disability programs expands, Braunstein will be a real asset in communicating the work of our Academy experts to our diverse audiences of journalists, federal and state policy makers, business and labor leaders, scholars and other interested parties.”

Braunstein comes to the Academy from the Washington, DC-based Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR), where, as Director of Communications, she developed public relations and outreach strategies, coordinated contact with media, organized press conferences and briefings, and oversaw the production of major publications. She served as the Institute’s Research Program Coordinator and contributed to reports and publications, including: Welfare That Works: The Working Lives of AFDC Recipients, Micro-Enterprise and Women: The Viability of Self-Employment as a Strategy for Alleviating Poverty, and Women’s Access to Health Insurance, as well as numerous Research-In-Briefs highlighting study findings.

Before joining IWPR, Ms. Braunstein was Assistant Program Coordinator for the 1992 Global Forum of Women, a leadership conference that brought delegates from 58 countries to Dublin, Ireland. Braunstein has a Master of Arts in Public Policy with a concentration in Women’s Studies and a Bachelors of Science in Journalism, both from the George Washington University.
