In Memoriam: James Tallon

 

James Tallon, an Academy Member since 1998, has passed away. Jim had served as President of the United Hospital Fund of New York. Previously, he served in the New York State Assembly, including six years as its majority leader. He also served as chair of the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured and as Secretary/Treasurer of the Alliance for Health Reform. He also served on the boards of: The Commonwealth Fund, including as its Chair from 2007 to 2014; the New York eHealth Collaborative; the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations; and the Institute of Medicine as a Profession.  

Jim served on the Academy’s Study Panel on Medicare’s Long-Term Financing in 2000. At the Academy’s thirteenth annual policy conference in 2001, he served as a discussant on a panel , “Philanthropic Initiatives in Health Security.” He also co-chaired the Academy’s Chief Executive Officer Search Committee in 2016. 

He received his Master’s degree in international relations from Boston University and his B.A. in political science from Syracuse University.
