Academy CEO Rebecca Vallas testified before the Senate Budget Committee this week in a hearing on securing Social Security’s future and addressing the Social Security Administration’s customer service challenges. Other witnesses included SSA Commissioner Martin O’Malley and Academy member Shai Akabas of the Bipartisan Policy Center.

As Rebecca told the Committee:

“When we talk about Social Security, it’s easy to get lost in facts and figures—and all too often, that’s where ivory tower debates around Social Security remain. But Social Security isn’t just a government program. And it isn’t just a math problem to be solved. It’s a reflection of our shared values as Americans—and a commitment we make to each other.”
