Challenges and Opportunities in Health Care Reform: Balancing Costs, Coverage, and Quality

Overview: The National Academy of Social Insurance and the USC Schaeffer Center are co-hosting an afternoon seminar and networking reception. This free educational event aims to provide a broad look at policy issues such as: innovative strategies for cost reduction, barriers for underserved populations, stabilizing the individual market, and options for financing. Experts will discuss national health programs—including the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid, and Medicare—and will incorporate lessons from comparative international examples. This event is geared towards public policymakers, community, business, and philanthropic leaders, journalists, graduate students, and other interested stakeholders.

Social insurance has been an integral part of American life for more than 80 years, and arguably, will play an even bigger role as the population ages and automation, global competition, rising inequality, and other developments continue to transform the economy and create new risks for workers and their families.
