Elaine Weiss to step down as Director of Policy

After nearly four years with the National Academy of Social Insurance – first as a Lead Policy Analyst and then as Director of Policy – Elaine Weiss has decided to move to the next phase in her career and launch her own independent consulting practice. This change will be effective on December 31, 2022. 

Elaine began her service at the Academy by facilitating the deliberations of our Workers’ Compensation Data Panel and overseeing the production of the Panel’s annual report, Workers’ Compensation Benefits, Costs, and Coverage. As Policy Director since October 2020, Elaine has led the Academy’s policy and research activities, which include the Task Force on Older Workers’ Retirement Security and the Task Force on Unemployment Insurance, as well as our ongoing Workers’ Compensation activities.  She also guided the launch of the Academy’s multi-year Pathways to Economic Security campaign.   

Elaine is a dedicated colleague who brings intellectual curiosity and passion to her work and human concern to her interactions with colleagues.  She cares deeply about the mission of the Academy and the impact of social insurance policies on workers, families, and the economic wellbeing of the nation. Her work with the Academy will have a lasting impact on key social insurance issues and policies.  

In recognition of her contributions to the work of the Academy and the field of social insurance, Elaine was elected as an Academy Member in 2022.  We are pleased that Elaine will remain connected to all of us and the Academy’s work through membership, even though her day-to-day role will change.
