John K Iglehart
John K. Iglehart is Founding Editor of Health Affairs, a bimonthly policy journal founded under the auspices of Project HOPE in 1981. Also since 1981, Iglehart has served as a national correspondent of The New England Journal of Medicine, for which he wrote more that 100 essays called Health Policy Report. In both positions, Iglehart has been on the pulse of health policymaking.
Before 1981, Iglehart was vice president of the Kaiser Permanente Health Plan. In this position, he directed Kaiser’s Washington, D.C. office. An earlier position in Iglehart’s career included the editorship at the National Journal, a weekly publication on politics and government. He was elected to the membership of the Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Science in 1977 and served on its Governing Council for six years, from 1985 to 1991.
Iglehart earned his Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He was also a journalist-in-residence at Harvard University’s School of Public Health. John Iglehart is a founding member of the National Academy of Social Insurance.
Iglehart is a life-long tennis player, having played while in college. He also enjoys golf, reading, and “hanging out” with his grandchildren.
